The process in motion:

This late-1800s vanity was pulled from a flooded basement, its leg broken and wood swollen with moisture. Made of white pine and poplar, it’s now on its way back to life through careful restoration.

Rebuilding strength:

The broken leg had missing wood at the joint. A ½” hole was precisely drilled into both sections, and a white oak dowel was glued and fitted into both parts to restore structure and durability.

Preserving character:

This mid-1900s oak server was shortened when the legs were cut down. It also required extensive cosmetic repairs to bring back its original charm.

Bringing it back together:

A new drawer was custom-fitted, new stretchers were added, and 4 out of 6 legs were turned to match the originals—along with detailed moldings and hand-carved accents.

Turning new legs:

In the shop, 2 matching legs are turned by hand to replicate the originals—part of the detailed restoration process to bring this piece back to its former elegance.

Carving the corner blocks:

Hand-carved details are carefully shaped to match the original design, restoring both beauty and structural integrity.

Traditional joinery:

A ½” hole was bored into each piece and assembled using hide glue—a time-tested adhesive chosen for its strength and reversibility in fine restoration work.
